It's Monday -- What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at One Persons Journey Through a World of Books. It's is a weekly event to celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

My "real" life -- that of mother and PTA president, will soon become more of a priority the closer I get to school starting (less than 3 weeks!!) -- so my love of reading will start taking a back seat in the next few weeks.  I hope you will bare with me -- I will read as much as I can, but I also need to feed and enjoy my kids, as well as keep new school parents pacified and plan my first PTA meeting! (Do you hear the terror in my voice?!)

With that disclaimer, I only FINISHED one book last week:

A Thousand Sisters by Lisa Shannon (3.5 out of 5 stars)
This was an amazing journey.  Kudos to Lisa for doing what most of us don't.

CURRENTLY READING:
Every Last One by Anna Quindlen
Every Last One
Synopsis from B&N:
In this breathtaking and beautiful novel, the #1 New York Times bestselling author Anna Quindlen creates an unforgettable portrait of a mother, a father, a family, and the explosive, violent consequences of what seem like inconsequential actions.

ON THE HOLDSHELF
Red Hood Road by Ayelet Waldman
Red Hook Road
Synopsis by B&N
Set on the coast of Maine over the course of four summers, Red Hook Road tells the story of two families, the Tetherlys and the Copakens, and of the ways in which their lives are unraveled and stitched together by misfortune, by good intentions and failure, and by love and calamity.

Because of my commitments, I have hearby given myself a personal ultimatum of no longer putting books on HOLD at the library.  My current read, and this book are the LAST books that I have requested from the library.  Once I am done reading these, I can start to make a dent in my own books.  I have FROZEN all my other requests.  It's like library book purgatory!

What are you reading this week?

I'm eager to see what you think of Waldman's book. So far I've liked her nonfiction a lot more than her fiction (granted, the only fiction I've read is Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, which I found highly readable but not very good).

Right now I'm reading The Magician's Book by Laura Miller, a quasi-memoir about her relationship with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I'm 14% of the way into it (according to my Kindle) and not loving it so far. I'm also reading The Case of the Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall (which I picked up when my Kindle died and I had to order a new charger), and I'm not loving that either. I am really enjoying Scott Turow's Presumed Innocent, which I'm listening to on my iPod. Maybe I'd like the other two books better if I weren't trying to read so many things at once.

Red Hook Road is one I really want to read, too - I've got it on my wish list. Looks good.

I think you're very brave to be taking on all those PTA duties. I could never have dealt with anything like that!

Happy reading this week!

I work at a library and Every Last One is constantly being checked out - hopefully you enjoy it.

Sidenote: I saw that you're a football fan on your profile blurb - who's your team?

I had to comment about the PTA president thing. I am the PTO president for our school this year. We had registration last week, which was crazy, but we got a ton of sign-ups. First day of school is Friday!!! Only two more days of summer.

I think I will actually get more reading done once school starts. I was too lazy this summer, letting the girls stay up too late and not having enough mom time to read at night. I am hoping for more reading time here real soon.

Did you finish Every Last One yet? I read that a month or so ago. I like her books, and I enjoyed this one as well.

Reading one book is just fine, remember you read for pleasure so don't worry/push yourself. I ended up over committing a little over a year ago and wasn't reading for fun. I stopped accepting book tours etc and now I'm reading what I want to read and loving it!

Enjoy your last few weeks before school starts.
